New market opens at Grand and Noble
Posted by Robin Mather Jenkins

We popped in Sunday to see the new Green Grocer Chicago shop and were delighted with what we found. The little shop features organic foods, and locally produced products whenever possible. We saw Trader’s Point Creamery products, frozen cuts of grass-fed beef, high-end butters and cheeses, some excellent frozen foods and lots of top-quality canned goods. There are books for sale, items for pets and a few toiletries. All in all, the space is warm and welcoming, and we look for good things from it.

Cassie Green, one of the owners, told us that the store opened last Wednesday and had been so busy that nearly all the fresh produce had sold out. Since most produce distributors don’t work on Sundays, they hadn’t been able to restock. Green said she was delighted by the warm reception the store had received from customers.

As a regular on the Grand Avenue bus, we know there’s nowhere but Bari Foods to stop for the odd item needed for dinner. Much as we love Bari, sometimes we need an ingredient that isn’t Italian, so we’re ever so happy to welcome Green Grocer Chicago to the ‘hood. The store’s open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sat., and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun. On the first Tuesday of the month, the store closes at 5 p.m. , Green said,  “so employees of Green Grocer Chicago can go serve a meal to the homeless at the Dignity Diner, located on Diversey Ave.”
